Spotting Fungal Nail Infections: When to Get Help
Fungal nail infections are common and can be tricky to treat if ignored. They often start small but recognising the signs early makes a big difference.
Signs of a Fungal Nail:
Yellow, white, or brown discolouration
Thickened, brittle, or crumbly nails
Nail lifting or changing shape
Mild odour or flakiness

Who Should You See?
Podiatrist – A podiatrist can assess the nail, confirm if it’s fungal, and recommend the best treatment. This may include trimming, topical or oral antifungals, or laser therapy.
GP – Your GP may be involved if oral medication is needed or if there are other health concerns like diabetes.
Why It Matters Fungal nails won’t clear up on their own - early treatment helps stop the spread and avoids long-term damage.
