Starting physiotherapy for the first time can feel a little daunting - but at My Allied Care, we’re here to make it easy, comfortable, and entirely focused on you. Whether you’re an NDIS participant or receiving support through a Home Care Package, our in-home physiotherapy services are designed to fit into your life - no clinic visits required.
So, if you’ve booked your first home physio appointment and aren’t quite sure what to expect, this guide will walk you through everything you need to know.

Why Choose In-Home Physiotherapy?
Many of our clients choose home visits because it’s simply more convenient - and for some, it’s essential. Whether you have limited mobility, transport difficulties, or just prefer receiving care in the comfort of your own home, our mobile physiotherapists bring everything needed for a professional, personalised session right to your door.
With in-home physiotherapy, you get:
🏡 Care in your own environment
🕒 Flexible appointment times
👩⚕️ One-on-one attention from your physio
👟 Exercises tailored to your space and routine
💬 Better communication with your support network
Before Your First Appointment: How to Prepare
There’s no need to stress - we’ll guide you every step of the way. But here are a few helpful tips to make your first session run smoothly:
👕 Wear Comfortable Clothing
Loose-fitting clothes like track pants, shorts, or leggings are ideal. Your physiotherapist may need to see how your joints and muscles are moving, so comfort and mobility are key.
🪑 Have a Space Ready
We don’t need much! A clear area the size of a yoga mat is usually enough. If you have stairs, a walker, or a favourite chair you use often, let us know - we may include them in your assessment or treatment plan.
📝 Have Any Documents Handy
If you’ve been referred by a GP, specialist, or case manager, bring any paperwork or care plans you’ve been given. If you have recent test results, X-rays, or hospital discharge notes, that’s helpful too - but not essential.
What Happens During the First Visit?
Your first in-home physiotherapy session with My Allied Care is all about getting to know you, your health history, and your goals. We take our time to ensure you feel comfortable and heard.
Here’s how it usually goes:
1. Warm Welcome and Introduction
We’ll arrive at your home, introduce ourselves, and have a quick chat about your setup and any immediate needs.
2. Comprehensive Assessment
Your physio will ask questions about your medical history, current concerns, mobility, pain levels, and what you’d like to achieve. This might include:
Strength and flexibility tests
Balance and walking assessments
Joint movement checks
Functional tasks like standing from a chair, climbing stairs, or reaching
We keep things respectful, gentle, and paced to suit your comfort.
3. Goal Setting
Together, we’ll set realistic, meaningful goals based on what matters most to you. Whether it’s walking to the letterbox, getting in and out of bed more easily, or simply reducing joint pain, your plan will reflect your lifestyle and abilities.
4. Personalised Treatment Plan
We’ll create a tailored physio plan that fits into your daily life - no gym needed. This may include:
Guided home exercises
Education on posture, joint care, or mobility aids
Falls prevention advice
Gentle manual therapy if needed
We’ll also show you how to do any exercises safely and check for hazards in the home that might affect your mobility.
5. Discussion and Next Steps
We’ll chat about how often you’d benefit from follow-up sessions, answer any questions, and liaise with your care coordinator or support team if needed.
Is Physiotherapy Covered by Your Funding?
Yes! If you’re receiving support through the NDIS or a Home Care Package, physiotherapy is often included under:
Improved Daily Living (NDIS – Capacity Building)
Allied Health (Home Care Package – Care Services)
We’ll help you navigate the funding side and work directly with your provider to make things simple. Whether you're plan-managed, self-managed, or with a home care provider, we can fit right into your existing support team.
